Abstract
El silo metálico es ampliamente utilizado por los agricultores para almacenar granos. En la región centroamericana hay alrededor de 100,000 silos que garantizan 1,000,000 quintales de maíz y frijol al año. Se debe seguir las recomendaciones para prevenir daños por gorgojos. Es importante mantener el silo limpio y bien sellado.
Para preparar silo con velas para proteger granos de gorgojos se debe de seguir una serie de pasos: 1- encender velas, 2- colocar en el platito dentro del silo, 3- tapar y sellar con cinta y después de dos semanas, abrir para sacar el grano libre de pesticidas. El método de velas es más efectivo, económico y saludable que las pastillas.
