Abstract
El documento hace referencia a elementos de política económica y social, pobreza, desarrollo rural, medio ambiente y economía campesina. Se presenta un recuento histórico de la evolución conceptual del tema, se ofrecen propuestas de definición y se formulan opciones de diferenciación y clasificación, con miras a desarrollar alternativas especializadas de apoyo y promoción. Se hace un aporte al conocimiento de la agroindustria rural en América Latina y el Caribe, al reconocimiento de su importancia económica y social y a su estado del arte, incorporando aspectos tecnológicos, de impacto ambiental, de comercialización y mercadeo, de propiedad y de articulación de la unidad transformadora con otros componentes del sistema, así como de la situación de los servicios de apoyo que respaldan su desarrollo
