El objetivo de este trabajo es brindar apoyo a la toma de decisiones en la priorización de productos, disciplinas, y áreas de trabajo en la continuación del PROCIANDINO. El estudio está dirigido a la priorización por rubros y disciplinas. Se utilizaron 14 criterios para clasificar los productos de acuerdo a su importancia, su sesgo en la distribución de los beneficios, los costos que supone la inversión en investigación en comparación con los beneficios que se espera de ella y la probabilidad de tener éxito en la investigación. En cuanto a las disciplinas o áreas de investigación, se han utilizado seis criterios: abundancia relativa de recursos; relevancia de los problemas por resolver en cada disciplina; énfasis actual de la investigación en los países; vinculación con otros centros de investigación; incentivo en el sector privado para la generación de tecnología; e importancia futura del área de investigación en el aumento de la productividad.
