El sector productivo cacaotero en Nicaragua está siendo afectado por múltiples factores. La incidencia de enfermedades, la desordenada propagación del material genético, el abandono o limitada atención del cultivo, las precarias vías de comunicación, el poco control en el proceso de fermentado, mezcla de variedades, entre otros, son los principales factores que inciden en la productividad y precios del cacao nacional. Sin embargo, la zona cacaotera de la Región Autónoma Atlántico Sur (RAAS) de Nicaragua ha emprendido un decidido proceso de reactivación, por revertir y controlar los factores mencionados.
