Abstract
Este estudio fue dirigido a obtener información acerca de algunas características de las medidas de control de insectos plagas tomadas por algunos productores de hortalizas en la República Dominicana y su relación a la calidad del producto, en lo referente a posibles residuos de pesticidas en éste. La hipótesis planteada es la siguiente: la medida más común de control de insectos plagas tomada por agricultores en la República Dominicana, es el uso de insecticidas. La mayoría de insecticidas, al no usarse adecuadamente, dejan residuos en los productos agrícolas y estos residuos posiblemente disminuyen la calidad de aquellos. Este estudio busca elementos de juicio para evaluar esta hipótesis. Un proyecto de comercialización agrícola, si comprueba o halla indicios de altos residuos de insecticidas en productos agrícolas, debe colaborar en un enfoque multidisciplinario para reducir esos residuos. Esto implica necesariamente, manejo de los insectos plagas en la etapa precosecha para reducir el número de aplicaciones de insecticidas. Mientras más evidencia se acumule referente a la necesidad de reducir el uso de insecticidas en agricultura, más fácil será iniciar el manejo integrado de insectos en la República Dominicana.
