Suriname. Significant achievements 2019

Abstract

The main activities carried out by the Institute in Suriname during 2019 are identified, with respect to the needs and interests of the country, strengthening technical capacities in climate-smart agriculture, in the use of digital technology, health and food safety, governance and operational management. Likewise, it contributed to the development of the rice industry, as well as the Rice Intensification Systems (SRI), in the beekeeping industry, the cocoa industry, and indigenous agriculture. Finally, it contributed to the inclusion of the role of women in agriculture, as well as support for gardens in orphanages, with the purpose of supplying the daily food of these institutions, without neglecting that children are trained in issues of farming.

Se identifican las principales actividades realizadas por el Instituto en Suriname durante el 2019, con respecto a las necesidades e interés del país, fortaleciendo las capacidades técnicas en agricultura climáticamente inteligente, en el uso de tecnología digital, la sanidad e inocuidad alimenticia, la gobernanza y gestión operativa. Así mismo, se contribuyo en el desarrollo de la industria arrocera, así como el Sistemas de Intensificación del Arroz (SRI), en la industria apícola, la industria del cacao, la agricultura indígena. Finalmente, se contribuyó a la inclusión del papel de la mujer en la agricultura, así como el apoyo a huertas en orfanatos, con el propósito de abastecer la comida diaria de estas instituciones, sin dejar de lado que se forman a los niños en temas de agricultura.
