Ofrece una visión integral de la historia y la evolución del café a nivel mundial, con un enfoque particular en el Estado de México. Desde la transición de los mercados tradicionales a la Bolsa de Valores del Café en Nueva York hasta el surgimiento de nuevos competidores como Vietnam, Indonesia, Colombia y Perú, el documento destaca la importancia del café en la economía global. Además, se aborda el impacto de las políticas públicas en el impulso productivo del café, incluyendo el apoyo gubernamental a través de la dotación de planta, servicios de extensión agrícola, innovación y vinculaciones con mercados. Se revela que la producción de café en el sur del Estado de México se desarrolla bajo un sistema de producción rústico o de montaña, con la venta directa del productor a la cooperativa de productores como principal canal de comercialización. Sin embargo, se señala la participación desigual en el precio final del producto entre productores, acopiadores y detallistas. Asimismo, se resalta la importancia de comprender los retos de la producción de café en el Estado de México y se plantea la necesidad de fortalecer la presencia institucional en regiones rurales prioritarias. Como resultado proporciona una perspectiva detallada de la producción, mercado y políticas públicas relacionadas con el café, destacando su relevancia en la economía local y global, así como los desafíos que enfrenta la industria cafetalera en el Estado de México.
