Abstract
Es un estudio sobre el sector agropecuario de Panamá y tiene por objetivo el proporcionar información básica para la preparación del Informe Socioeconómico del BID, y apoyar a las autoridades nacionales en la reflexión sobre la política sectorial agropecuaria, en el marco del proceso de liberación económica y modernización de la agricultura. El documento analiza las principales caracteríticas, la evolución de la producciópn y la situación del comercio exterior del sector agropecuario, describe la política macroeconómica y analiza las principales políticas sectoriales ejecutadas en la última década, buscando establecer sus interrelaciones con el desempeño del sector. Evalúa la naturaleza de la inversión pública y privada en el sector, presenta una descripción y análisis del sistema institucional público y privado del sector agropecuario, analiza la pobreza en el medio rural, considera la situación de la mujer en el medio rural. Se presenta también un detalle de la situación del medio ambiente rural y finaliza con conclusiones y sugerencias en cuanto a políticas, instituciones e inversiones.
