Abstract
Recoge las conclusiones y recomendaciones; las exposiciones de los conferencistas internacionales; así como los técnicos nacionales participatnes en el III Seminario: Mejoramiento para Tolerancia a Factores Ambientales Adversos en el Cultivo del Maíz, realizado en el marco del Programa Cooperativo de Investigación Agrícola para la Subregión Andina (PROCIANDINO). Dicho evento se desarrolló del 14 al 18 de setiembre de 1987 en la ciudad de Quito, Ecuador, bajo la organizacion del Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Agropecuarias (INIAP) de ese país. Los objetivos específicos del Seminario fueron: 1) analizar la información disponible sobre técnicas de investigación para encontrar tolerancia a: Sequía en el caso del maíz tropical; altas temperaturas y exceso de lluvias en floración; vientos y exceso de agua en el suelo; acidez y deficiencia de nitrógeno en el suelo; y, heladas y granizo, considerados como factores ambientales adversos comunes del cultivo del maíz en los cinco países de la Subregión Andina (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú y Venezuela); 2) informar a los participantes de estos países sobre las experiencias obtendias por el Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo (CIMMIYT) y analizar las metodologías más apropiadas que podrían aplicarse en la investigación; 3) identificar los mecanismos más idóneos para compartir entre los países de la Subregión, las metodologías disponibles para mejorar la tolerancia del maíz a factores ambientales adversos.
