Abstract
Presenta una visión general de la situación de la yuca en el Ecuador. Abarca aspectos tales como: alternativas de la demanda, comportamiento de precios y consumo nacional, problemática de la comercialización de la yuca (márgenes de comercialización 1980-1984), demanda para el consumo humano y posibilidades de la yuca en la agroindustria alimentaria, situación de la producción y demanda nacional. Enfatiza el análisis en la demanda de yuca en la costa ecuatoriana, en donde se concentra el 71.8 por ciento de la demanda nacional. Destaca una serie de factores para que sé de esta situación, a saber: concentración poblacional (57 por ciento de la población nacional se ubica en la costa), mayor demanda de alimentos concentrados (camaroneras, producción avícola, ganadera y porcina con mayor presencia en la región), ubicación de exportadoras y agroindustria en mayor porcentaje. Destaca que la zona de la costa produjo un 40 por ciento de la yuca total producida en el periodo 1980-1984 en el Ecuador.
