Abstract
The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), together with the Chile Origen Consciente program of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Dairy Consortium, has implemented the Sustainability Standard for Dairy Farms, making progress in the creation of a public dairy platform for all companies in the sector. Auditors and technical advisors have been trained, certifying the first 100 dairy farms. In addition, the Chilean Dried Plum Sustainability Standard was designed and an action plan was developed to address gaps in family farming in the O'Higgins Region. Training events were held and new sustainable practices were implemented, including technologies such as the "Toolbox" and the delivery of a pressure pump to measure water stress in crops. An institutional diagnosis of Chile's Agricultural and Livestock Service was also carried out, with strategies to strengthen it. Initiatives such as the first drip irrigation system for rice in Chile and climate change adaptation projects, including ecological restoration and hydroponic green fodder production, were highlighted. In addition, water rights, cost estimation of food-borne diseases and strengthening of rural extension services in Latin America were addressed in collaboration with FAO and RELASER.
