Presenta los resultados de un esfuerzo orientado a proporcionar un conjunto de elementos de referencia para el proceso de integración centroamericana en el marco de la investigación agropecuaria, desarrollado como parte de un convenio de donación de alcance limitado por el Programa II del IICA (Generación y Transferencia de Tecnología) con el USAID/ROCAP, en consulta y coordinación con los organismos de investigación agropecuaria de los países centroamericanos y Panamá. El contenido del documento está estructurado en cinco capítulos principales, a saber: (1) la importancia del sector agropecuario para la subregión; (2) la situación institucional y de recursos de la investigación agropecuaria: el problema de los países pequeños; (3) prioridades para el Programa Cooperativo de Investigación en la Subregión Central: metodología y aplicación; (4) investigación y transferencia en la región; (5) propuesta para la organización del Programa Cooperativo de Investigación Agrícola para la Subregión Central (PROCICENTRAL). En su conjunto, busca desarrollar un argumento coherente e integrado con respecto a la cooperación técnica dentro del área centroamericana y Panamá, su necesidad y posible desenvolvimiento.
