La propiedad intelectual y las nuevas biotecnologías desde la perspectiva del comercio agrícola

Abstract

En la agricultura, la propiedad intelectual cumple un papel determinantes en la protección de insumos agrícolas, tales como semillas de variedades obtenidas por métodos convencionales o a través de la ingeniería genética, plantas transgénicas, alimentos, aparatos, maquinarias, productos animales, herbicidas y plaguicidas, entre otros. Pese a algunas protestas, la comercialización de productos biotecnológicos protegidos, mediante patentes se ha incrementado de una manera vertiginosa en el mundo, así como el desarrollo de plantas con resistencia a herbicidas, por lo que la propiedad intelectual tiene y tendrá un efecto positivo en la investigación y desarrollo agrícola.
