his document examines the macroeconomic and sectoral context and the trends and outlook for crops, livestock, fisheries, forests and rural well-being, as well as the public policies and institutional framework for these sectors. Based on an analysis of the trends and prospects, each chapter offers a series of recommendations for the consideration of decision-makers, in an effort to help address the challenges posed by the global economic dynamics and to take advantage of opportunities. This edition also includes a special chapter on the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030, with the aim of providing guidance to decision-makers for the development of policies and tools that will strengthen the contribution of agriculture and rural areas to the achievement of those objectives from a comprehensive and systemic perspective. Chapter I. Macroeconomic context: The trends and perspectives of the financial and macroeconomic markets are analyzed, which determine the context in which agriculture in the Americas will develop. Chapter II. Agricultural sector context: It begins with an analysis of the main agricultural aggregates in the region (sector context), after which the trends and sector perspectives of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and forests are detailed. Chapter III. Rural well-being: Using household survey data from twelve Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries, trends in rural well-being are analyzed before and after the global financial crisis, focusing on poverty, income inequality and non-monetary measures of well-being. Chapter IV. Policies and institutions: A review of the trends in policies for agriculture in LAC and its main commercial partners is carried out, emphasizing the main support received by the sector. In addition, this edition includes a special chapter on the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, in order to provide guidance to decision-makers for the development of policies and instruments that allow strengthening the contribution of agriculture and the rural territories to achieve these objectives from a comprehensive and systemic perspective....
