Abstract
Entre los países agrícolas más antiguos se encuentran los de Oriente, especialmente China, Corea e India. Estos han sido durante mucho tiempo los países más densamente poblados. ¿Cómo han podido estos y otros países orientales suministrar alimentos a su gente durante un período de al menos 40 o 50 siglos sin la importación de cantidades apreciables de alimentos o fertilizantes? Es escasa la literatura publicada que brinde los detalles esenciales de su sistema agrícola en los primeros años de su historia.
