Abstract
The document explains that the summarized information contained in this Directory was extracted from CATBIO, a document published by the Regional Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Santiago, Chile. It was prepared in Spanish by a FAO Regional Plant Production Officer. CATBIO covers 153 (61 percent of 257) laboratories identified by FAO. Total or partial reproduction of the contents of CATBIO is authorized by FAO, but the source should be mentioned. The full title of the original publication is: FAO.1990. CATBIO Catálogo Regional de Laboratorios de Biotecnología Vegetal, Encuesta Regional 1989-1990. FAO Oficina Regional para América Latina y el Caribe, Santiago, Chile 149 p. This directory is organized along biotechniques of major importance in each laboratory, encompassing: genetic engineering; cell and tissue culture; in vitro germplasm conservation; meristem tip culture; in vitro metabolite production; pathogen diagnosis; plant defence mechanisms; plant proteins and enzymes.
