Suriname. Significant achievements 2018

Abstract

The main activities carried out by the Institute in Suriname during 2018 are identified, with respect to the needs and interests of the country, strengthening issues such as horticulture, natural resource management, agribusiness, solar energy, hydroponic production, protected agriculture and resilience against climate change, as well as the use of organic gardens. Likewise, work was done on the automation of processes and on the management of water resources, such as the collection of rainwater, to mitigate the impact of water sources contaminated by mercury. Finally, the use of the Perone Hive technology was supported, in beekeeping and in the use of the Rice Intensification System (SRI), in order to improve rice production.

Se identifican las principales actividades realizadas por el Instituto en Suriname durante el 2018, con respecto a las necesidades e interés del país, fortaleciendo en temas de horticultura, gestión de recursos naturales, agronegocios, energía solar, producción hidropónica, agricultura protegida y resiliencia contra el cambio climático, así como el empleo de huertas orgánicas. Asimismo, se trabajó en la automatización de los procesos y en el manejo del recurso hídrico, como la recolección de agua de lluvia, para mitigar el impacto de fuentes de agua contaminadas por mercurio. Finalmente, se apoyo el empleo de la tecnología Perone Hive, en apicultura y en el empleo del Sistema de Intensificación del Arroz (SRI), con el fin de mejorar la producción de arroz.
