Octogésima Quinta Reunión Ordinaria del Comité de Agricultura de la Organización Mundial del Comercio

Abstract

En esta nota se dan a conocer los principales temas tratados en la Octogésima Quinta Reunión Ordinaria del Comité de Agricultura de la Organización Mundial del Comercio (OMC) , a la que el Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA) asistió en calidad de observador. El IICA observa las discusiones del Comité desde 2010, ya que sus Estados Miembros también son parte de la OMC y los temas que se discuten en política comercial y agrícola son trascendentales para la gestión del comercio internacional de sus cadenas agrícolas de valor. En estas reuniones los delegados de comercio de los países supervisan el cumplimiento que los Miembros de la OMC3 dan a sus compromisos del Acuerdo sobre Agricultura y discuten las medidas comerciales que sus gobiernos aplican o desean aplicar en el ámbito agropecuario. Es importante recordar que tales medidas han de comunicarse a todos los países por medio de notificaciones.

This note describes the most important topics discussed during the Eighty-Fifth Regular Meeting of the Committee on Agriculture of the World Trade Organization (WTO) , which the Inter American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) attended in an observer capacity. IICA has been an observer of this Organization before the Committee of Agriculture since 2010 for a number of reasons. First, the Member States of IICA are also part of the WTO. Secondly, the topics that the members of the Committee discuss in the areas of trade and agricultural policy are important for managing international trade within the framework of agricultural value chains. In these meetings, the country’s trade delegates monitor the WTO Member States implementation of the commitments established in the Agreement on Agriculture and discuss the trade measures that their governments implement, or wish to implement, in the area of agriculture. It is important to bear in mind that such measures must be conveyed to each country via notifications.
